Rather than retesting the free agent market yet again, Correa and New York remained persistent in their attempts to pull off a deal. The Corea camp doesn’t want a contract restructure, while the Mets likely want some insurance in the deal. It’s a race to see who blinks first – Scott Boras or Steve Cohen.

Steve Cohen commented publicly on New York’s negotiations with Korea a few weeks ago. He doesn’t want to look foolish. Meanwhile, Scott Boras and Correa will be on their third team in as many weeks if the contract is not fulfilled. This doesn’t sound ideal either.

It seems that the problem with any contract between the Mets and Carlos Correa is his physical problems. Correa suffered a serious leg injury during his time in the minor leagues with the Houston Astros. Because of this, a metal plate had to be inserted into his leg by surgery. The Giants and New York City are now both reportedly concerned about Korea’s longevity.
Given that said contract will be for over a decade, it’s hard to blame New York for doing their due diligence.
