Fred White, former drummer of Earth, Wind and Fire, dies at 67

Earth, wind and firethe American band, had to say goodbye on Monday to Fred Whitean original member of the group, passed away at the age of 67.

Fred White was the former drummer for Earth, wind and firea group formed by Wyatt’s brother in the late 1960s Maurice, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 74. Known for their synth, soul, and pop sound, the band made the transition to disco in the 1980s, when they achieved signature hits.

The late Fred White was one of the founding members of the group and was the person who set the beat on some of their most remembered songs, like “September,” “Boogie Wonderland,” “Saturday Nite,” and “Shining Star.”

His death was announced in a post by Verdine, Fred’s brother and also a member of the group. The brother identified him as an “amazing and talented” musician and brother.

“Dearest family, friends and fans… Our family is saddened today by the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our much beloved brother Frederick Eugene Freddie White,” Verdin’s statement began.

He joins our brothers Maurice, Monty, and Ronald in Heaven and now he’s drumming with the Angels! Child protected, member of EWF ORIGINAL 9, with gold records at the young age of 16! He was Brother #4 in the family lineup.

“But more than that at home and away he was the wonderful brother who was always amusing and mischievous! And we could always count on him to make a seemingly bad situation a little more fun!”

Verdin ended his emotional tribute by insisting that his brother’s memory would live on.
