Jeremy Renner’s accident occurred while helping stranded family members

Jeremy Renner was involved in a snowfall while helping a family member who was stranded with their car in the snow, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

“Based on our investigation, Mr. Renner’s personal vehicle, which was driven by a family member, got stuck in the snow near his home,” Washoe County Sheriff Darren Balaam said during a press conference. “Mr. At this point, it is observed that Piston Bully is starting to roll. In an effort to stop a rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner tries to get into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, at this point Mr. Renner is run over by a PistenBully.”

Renner also posted a selfie on Instagram Tuesday, writing, “Thank you all for your kind words. I’m so tired right now to write. But I’m sending love to all of you.”

On Monday, Reno Mayor Hillary Chevy told Reno Gazette Journal That Renner was helping someone stuck in the snow when he was run over by his snowplow. “He always helps others,” she told the paper.

On January 2, the “Hawk” star underwent two surgeries after sustaining blunt force trauma to the chest and bone injuries in the weather-related accident. After the surgery, Renner remained in the intensive care unit in a “critical but stable condition,” according to his representation.

It’s not clear exactly how the accident happened, but deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a “traumatic injury” that Renner was involved in in Reno, Nevada, taking the actor to a nearby hospital. At the time, the sheriff’s office said Renner was the only person involved in the incident.

In a statement Jan. 2, the actor’s rep said, “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses who care for him, Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno Mayor Hilary Schiffey, Carano and the Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative.” The outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Between December 31 and January 1, Reno received 6-12 inches of snow at elevations below 5,000 feet and 18 inches at higher elevations, according to Reno National Weather Service. Two weeks before the accident, Renner posted a photo of himself on Instagram driving a snowplow.

Renner is best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in films like “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Thor,” in addition to his own TV mini-series. “Hawkeye” on Disney+. Renner also directs the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown” and has appeared in both the “Mission: Impossible” and “Bourne” action movie franchises.
