Pokémon Scarlett and Violet reveal a new event for Tera Raid

A new event for Tera Raid has been announced Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The event will start on January 6th, and will run until January 8th. during the event, Scarlet Pokemon Players will be able to find Hydreigon in four- and five-star raids, while Pokemon Violet Players will be able to find Dragapult. Unlike the Charizard and Cinderace events, players will have the chance to find these two Dragon-type Pokémon in all of the various Tera types. This should provide a strong incentive for players to check it out, while also looking for the specific Tera variant that best meets their needs!

The Tera species is a new addition to the Pokemon franchise. When a player’s Tera Orb is charged, they can bring their Pokémon into battle. By default, most Pokemon have a Tera-type that matches their main type, which means Fire and Flying-type Pokemon like Charizard become exclusively Fire-type, eliminating any strengths and weaknesses associated with Flying types. However, sometimes players get lucky and find Terastallized Pokemon in the wild that just happen to have a unique Tera typing. Finding the best Tera combinations will be a big part of the game’s competitive landscape, adding a new wrinkle to player strategies.

Players can change the type of Pokemon’s Tera in the game, but finding the required 50 Shards can be a time consuming process! As such, the chances of catching Pokémon with unique terra types are quite welcome. In addition to this new Tera Raid event, The Pokemon Company introduced a monthly gift this past month, which allowed players to get 50 Ice Tera Shards through the Mystery Gift function. It remains to be seen if we’ll see more gifts like this, but it seems like a safe bet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Readers can check out all of our previous coverage of the game here.
