The Smallville makers reveal what they might change now about the series

Smallville It ran for 10 seasons on The CW, starting in 2001 and running through 2011, so it’s obviously hard to say this show wasn’t a huge hit. However, executive producers/showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough aren’t convinced they couldn’t do it better with the benefit of hindsight. In a new interview about Wednesdaytheir new series for Netflix, the two suggest that if they had to do it again, it would be better done by Lana, who they say isn’t fully fleshed out, and who feel unfairly shaken by all the style-breaking/breakup things she and Clark have done.

talk with Hollywood ReporterMillar and Gough said they had no real interest in revisiting the world Smallville (which raises some questions about the long-rumored animated revival), and that they had no advice for James Gunn taking on the Man of Steel (they said he’s a good filmmaker and didn’t need their help). They also talked about how to deal with them Smallville differently if they were doing it now.

“The Clark-Lana thing has been going on way too long,” Goff said. “Something else had to happen there. I think that was a bit of a recurring thing. My youngest daughter now, finally after WednesdayYou will come back to watch Smallville, which is in the second season. She said, “What’s the deal with those two?” I’m like, “It was a different time.” So, I think there are things that, if we go back in time, maybe we’d be more adventurous with some of these relationships and bring it to certain heads and let it play out.”

“We were definitely careful and very aware of the fact that we wanted to get to five seasons, and we ended up with 10, but we’re just like, ‘Okay, if we take them apart, what are we going to do?'” Millar added. Again, as the girls’ father, I think the female characters we’d do differently today. I think Lana, her agency just wasn’t there. She could have been a much stronger character, and I always felt like she was at a disadvantage. Different era, different time. So, That’s something I think we could have done and we’ll definitely look to do better.”

You can catch Smallville on Hulu these days, or re-watched on DVD, Blu-ray, or Digital.
