Michigan fans have to deal with the prospect of losing Jim Harbaugh, but some phantom fans have a wild choice to replace him.
Despite the fact that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh fell to just 1-6 in bowl games after losing his sixth straight with a Fiesta Bowl loss to TCU, Wolverines fans have to appreciate how well the program is built. Two years in a row, the team has now not only outscored rival Ohio State, but has won the Big Ten championship and won the College Football Playoff game.
So as rumors are now swirling aggressively that Harbaugh could leave to return to the NFL, whether that be the Broncos, Colts, Panthers, or somewhere else still undetermined, fans are trying to figure out what could be next if that happens.
Apparently, some fans have been thinking a lot about it.
A handful of message board posters discussing the topic have brought up the notion that Michigan State is not just hiring a former head coach at Ohio State to replace Harbaugh, but doing so with one of the most hated ex-Buckeyes figures in history: Urban Meyer.

There is no doubt that Mayer knows how to win football matches. But when it comes to manners and his methods, that’s a different story. He certainly doesn’t fit the swaggering prototype of the Michigan gentleman, and that’s before you even consider his former residence in Columbus.
More than that, though, Meyer doesn’t seem interested in leaving his FOX Sports gig now to coach another program, especially after his disastrous stint in the NFL with the Jaguars. This makes it less likely.
Full disclosure, this is just wildly incoherent message board fodder. But it’s very hard to wonder how desperate it must have been for a Michigan fan to imagine such a thing.
