LG Gram Style stole the show at CES 2023 with a color-changing laptop

While other laptop makers try to reinvent the wheel with foldable screens and other exterior tricks, LG keeps it delightfully simple with its new LG Gram Style.

Announced at CES 2023, this 2.7-pound laptop looks stunning given that it has a 16-inch OLED display. It is a bright and sharp panel with a resolution of 400 nits and 3200 x 2000 pixels. You also get a fast 120Hz refresh rate. But what sets this highly portable device apart is its design.

The Gram Style’s glass surface has a hidden tactile touchpad with soft LED backlighting that lights up when you touch the system, giving you a sleek look. Even better, the colors on the hull change dynamically based on how you hold it in the light.

To be clear, this laptop isn’t all-glass. The iridescent finish on the lid and surface is Gorilla Glass 3, while the base of the system uses a magnesium nano-alloy. I had a chance to get my hands on the Gram Style and was impressed with its overall build quality — and the fact that it did a fairly good job of resisting fingerprint smudges.

I wasn’t intrigued by the gram-style keyboard. The travel was a little sketchy for my tastes, but it’s nice to have a dedicated number plate on the right side of the build.

LG Gram Style’s specs are what you’d expect for a premium laptop, including an Intel 13th Gen Raptor Lake P-Core CPU and Gen4 NVMe SSD. You also get two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB 3.1 port, and a microSD slot, as well as support for Dolby Atmos audio.
