Sarah Michelle Gellar is closing the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot

Sarah Michelle Gellar will return to superhero TV in the upcoming Paramount+ series, “Wolf Pack.” It’s been a long time coming for Gellar, who became an icon of teen superhero television with her role as Buffy Summers on The WB’s long-running series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The show ran for seven seasons and 144 episodes between 1997 and 2003, making Gellar an instant teen idol. The actor recently told SFX Magazine (via IndieWire) that she is not interested in resurrecting Buffy Summers in the “Buffy” reboot.

“I’m so proud of the show we’ve created and there’s no need to do it,” Gellar said of returning as the character. “We’re done with that.”

Gellar continued, “I support all of them for continuing the story, because there is a story of female empowerment.” I love the way he left the show: “Every girl who has power can have power.” Perfectly set up for someone else to have the power. But like I said, Buffy’s metaphors were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I’m not a teen.”

So there you have it: Gellar will give Buffy her grace, but won’t get her to reprise the character again. Fans of the actress can see her return to the world of superhero TV in “Wolf Pack,” the upcoming Paramount+ series from the creator of MTV’s “Teen Wolf.”

Gellar previously said, “It’s really hard when you’re doing something like ‘Buffy’.” den geek about returning to this genre. “Because I haven’t avoided the genre, just because I can’t top it. So it must be something completely different or just as good.” [as ‘Buffy’], or all of these things must meet together. I like the genre, but it has to be appropriate.”

Gellar went on to describe “Wolf Pack” as “really scary,” adding, “I guess that’s the only fun thing I haven’t really gotten into dipping my toe in too much. I know what you did last summer.” “Scream” is funny. ‘Grudge’ is scary. But I couldn’t tell those fun stories.”

“Wolf Pack” debuted January 26 on Paramount+.
