I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, especially when it comes to fitness. I often see people set unrealistic goals and injure themselves in the process. Finding joy in movement is about finding the type of exercise you love, and if it’s about running, welcome to the club. Whether you’re thinking of running a 5k or marathon, or you’re just logging miles for fun, a couple of The best running shoes It’s a necessity. But what should you buy?
As a fitness editor and marathon runner, I review running shoes for a living. Over the past six years, I’ve written about carbon fiber panels, shoe uppers, and midsole foam for some of the best shoes on the market. However, whenever anyone asks me for a personal recommendation, I am baffled – like to find The best sports braShoes are subjective, and what works for me may not work for you. However, if you’re looking to pick up a pair of shoes in January, there’s one pair I come back to again and again – Nike Zoom X Invincible Run 2.
These running shoes are designed for easy, comfortable mileage logging. They won’t put you on a PR on race day, but if you’re just starting out, or you’re looking for a shoe that will let you slip on while listening to a killer podcast on those cold winter mornings, the Indomitable Run 2 is for you. It’s bouncy, it’s fun, and I own four pairs. (Yes, you read that correctly – if you’ve been in this game long enough, you’ll know that your favorite shoe grief receives drastic changes.)
When Nike released the first version of this shoe, it was Nike Zoom X Invincible Run Flyknit, it positioned it as a shoe for runners training for a marathon, and looking for a soft, cushioned shoe for easy days of running. After miles of testing, I concluded that the shoe was a lot more than that—there’s no reason a beginner can’t get a lot out of this shoe. Designed for maximum shock absorption, it’s filled with bouncy, responsive foam that feels squishy and comfortable from your first step.
The magic of this shoe lies in the ZoomX midsole, which is extremely cushiony and soft underfoot. Unlike most of the best running shoes on the market, there is no Strobel cushioning under the sole of the shoe, so your foot sits directly on top of the ZoomX foam, allowing you to truly sink into the shoe.
ZoomX foam is usually reserved for the faster shoes in its group, such as Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next %2and the nike alfly next%. Both faster shoes have carbon fiber panels, and without the panel, foam seems to take on a different meaning on the Invincible Run. Instead of pushing the foot forward, the bouncy, responsive foam reduces the impact of each step for a more comfortable run. The shoe also has the same rocker geometry that we’ve seen in a lot of Nike’s newer innovations, but again, this is to make running easier, rather than helping the toe run faster.
All in all, this is an ultra-luxurious, ultra-comfortable running shoe, and it’s the one I pack for a vacation where I’m limited on space. I spend a lot of my time testing running shoes, but this is the pair I always go back to.
