Police said in a news briefing that the shooting in Half Moon Bay was likely “workplace violence”.

Police said the evidence indicated that Mass shooting in Half Moon BayCalifornia, which left seven dead and one seriously injured was a possible workplace violent incident.

San Mateo County Sheriff Cristina Corpus said the only known connection between the victims and the suspect is that they may have been co-workers. Press Conference Tuesday morning.

The shooting took place in two locations on Monday. The first location, Mountain Mushroom Farm, is where the suspect, identified by the sheriff as 66-year-old Chunli Zhao, is believed to have been operating. There, the authorities found four dead and one wounded. The second location was also a mushroom farm, about a mile away, where officials found three dead people.

The identities of the victims have not been released because officials are still working to notify the families. Five men and two women were killed, Mayor Jonathan Sebring told CBS News in an email Tuesday. Corpus had initially reported that the victims included six males and a female.

The victims were a mixture of Hispanic and Asian descent. The injured man is out of surgery and is in stable condition, Corpus said.

Public information officer Eamonn Allen said he could not comment on whether the victims were random or whether they were specifically targeted. Nor did he disclose other information that led authorities to suspect it was an incident of workplace violence.

“I will say that there were no specific indications that would lead us to believe he was capable of something like that, and he was not known to us or had any kind of indication, again, that might have led us to believe that,” Allen said.

Authorities said the gun used in the shooting was a semi-automatic handgun, which they said was legally purchased and owned.

Chow remains in custody after he was arrested by members of the Sheriff’s Department. The lawsuit will be held Wednesday afternoon, the Half Moon Bay District Attorney said. He said charges have yet to be determined, but they will likely include murder charges.
