The infamous awards show was not without controversy after one of this year’s worst actress nominations went to 12-year-old Ryan Kira Armstrong for her role in Firestarter. The movie, which also stars Zac Efron, is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

Many took to social media to call out the Razzie Awards for choosing the young actress, who also starred in “It Chapter 2” and “Black Widow.”

“Why would we put a child at increased risk of bullying or worse?” tweeted Julian Hilliard, the child actor who starred in “WandaVision” and “Haunting of Hill House.”

Director Joe Russo — who co-directed “Avengers: Endgame” with his brother Anthony Russo — tweeted that the awards show had “sank to a new low.”

“If you are going to continue to denigrate people’s hard work—which you should not—at least target adults,” Russo wrote.

The Razzie Awards have since removed Armstrong’s name from the final ballot, organizers said in a statement to CBS News. They added that Armstrong “came in fifth/last in the Worst Actress category”.

In early 2022, the Regulators Razi canceled Awarded to actor Bruce Willis after he was diagnosed with a cognitive disorder. They created a category for him called Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie for his “Cosmic Sin.”

“If someone’s medical condition was a factor in their decision-making and/or performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to award them with a Razzie,” the organizers said in a statement at the time.

Besides “Blond” and “Good Morning,” the nominees for worst picture were “Pinocchio,” “The King’s Daughter,” and “Morbius.”
