Backstage In New York Manga for a live-action series in March

However, Sashi will not compete with New York. You will be in Tokyo.

Tokai TV Announced that Hiroki Otsuka’s Backstage in the New York manga will be getting a Live TV series adaptation. The series is set to premiere on March 4, so this is one show that doesn’t allow for a long time between announcement and premiere.

Along with the announcement of the adaptation, some of the cast and staff were also revealed. Hiroe Igeta will star as Sachi, and Shinji Takeda will star in Cool Mint / Shū Narita. It was announced that the director is Chihiro Ikeda, and the scripts are being written by Tomonari Sakuri and Yoko Shimoda. Finally, Masahiro Hiramoto is composing the music.

The manga follows Sashi, an office worker who has had a hard life. Sachi has a passion for fashion and moves to New York to pursue her dreams. There, she meets a drag queen named Paul. Sachi begins helping Paul at his gay bar, where she meets the mysterious Ken. The three characters from different backgrounds then begin their collective lives in the Big Apple. However, it should be noted that the live-action adaptation will differ slightly from the manga.

The live event series will take place in Tokyo, not New York. In addition, in the series, Sachi’s mother died when she was young, so she lives with her father and works for a construction company. Sachi’s heart still belongs to fashion, so her hobby is making Western clothes in her spare time. Also, Paul will not appear in the live-action; Instead, Sachi meets a drag queen named Cool Mint. At this point, it appears the mysterious Kane will also not be appearing in the live-action adaptation, which makes sense since Saatchi won’t be working at the bar in New York where she first met him.

Ken, Sachi and Paul stand together as Sachi holds rolls of fabric in her hands.

The series will contain only four episodes. The original digital manga was released in 2020 and has 14 chapters. That’s a decent amount to pack into four episodes, so it’s no wonder the series won’t exactly follow the manga.
