Monster Hunter Toolbar

You have a toolbar that you can use to get to things faster than going through a menu. On the toolbar, you can access the menu for quick navigation while in the village, and you can take in-game photos, express emotions, and chat with players online. While searching, you can also use it to climb on your friend, order them to stop or continue, and you can summon your pet to you as well.

In Mission, you also have a separate toolbar at the bottom right. This is like an inventory bar, so you can access things like potions, rations, bombs, and so on. This means that you don’t have to access the menu when fighting to heal and regenerate stamina.

9 Use the training area

Monster Hunter training area

When you’re starting out, it can be difficult to know how best to deal with the monsters you hunt. This is why using the training area is important, you can use all the different weapons at your disposal. This is important because some weapons are better than others, and it can vary depending on your play style.

This also allows you to strategize based on monsters as well, so you can see which weapons work best on which monsters when picking and choosing missions. It will also help you learn different combos that you can use depending on the weapons you choose.

8 Use the map when searching

Monster hunter maps

It may sound simple but when you are on a mission make sure to use the map. Either the mini map in the bottom left or the large map in the main menu. If you search for a monster, it will appear as a question mark on the map, or a red dot for smaller monsters and collectible quest items.

When tracking large monsters, once found they will appear as a graphic of what you hunted, and at the top left you can select a monster to hunt when hunting multiple monsters. This will then mark it on the map with a box around it, the map is also useful as it will show where the monster will go.

7 Remember that you are around the clock

Monster Hunter timer

When you enter a task, you have a specific time to complete it, In most cases 50 minutes. This means that you will fail the mission if you run out of time, so make sure you are prepared and ready to do this mission.

If you need to get away from the mission, you can pause the game. When you enter the menu, this does not pause the game, but if you go into gears, you can select pause. This will then stop the game and the timer, so you can pause and return to it, as long as the game remains open.

6 Keep your eyes peeled for insect aficionados

Monster Hunter Bug buffs

When you are on a task, you need to keep an eye on the various errors that you can find. These bugs do various things to help you as you complete missions. As you can see, your health and stamina bars are not filled all the way, this is because you can find bugs in the research that will increase your health and stamina.

You can also find bugs to increase defense and offense as well, so finding these bugs is important. Once a mission leaves this resets, so you will need to find it every time you enter a mission. In addition to these bugs, you’ll also be able to find Wirebugs that give you additional wiring quirks. These are really useful when fighting larger monsters as you can dodge faster and recover when you fall.

5 Use your friend

Monster Hunter buddies

When you try to move around the map a little faster, especially when hunting monsters, you have to use your friend. This is the dog that you get on your side and that you can customize and use in battles. To ride your friend, you can pin him down by holding down B or circle on a controller. While on the dog you can run and climb to higher areas to find your monsters. This makes traversing the map much easier and will help you complete missions faster and within the time limit. Even when you are not using your friend they will engage monsters and assist you in battles, unless you tell them not to.

In addition to the dog, you have a cat that you can choose when creating your character. While customizing them, you can choose what you want them to do to help you (heal, fight, tank, etc.). It’s especially nice to have the healing type to make sure you don’t pass out when trying to complete missions. You can also go to the friend zone in the village to hire different friends and make changes for them.

4 Make sure to check your boxes

Monster Hunter Boxes

There are two different chests that you have to keep an eye on, your item box and the quest box. First, the Equipment Chest in the Village is found in multiple places in the Hub and next to Quest Maiden. This contains any gear you have that is not equipped and any items you took out from a mission that you can use for crafting and upgrades. The other chest is located at the start of a mission in the base camp, and this will contain some basic supplies to help you like potions, rations, and crafting supplies. You may not have room for all of that, but it’s best to check if you need to.

Make sure to check these boxes as you may end up buying duplicate things, like potions, traps, etc. when you already have them in a box somewhere. This will provide you with valuable resources and money that you may need later in the game.

3 Make sure you are prepared for the tasks

Monster Hunter Quest Prep

Once you have chosen a task, be sure to prepare for it in the village. You can use the store to get any crafting resources, potions, and traps that you may need to help you capture or kill your monster. You should also hit the Forge here where you can forge new weapons or upgrade your existing ones. This can be the difference between completing your mission or not, the more you upgrade your weapons the more powerful they will be.

You are also able to forge and upgrade armor as well, this will help you to survive when fighting big monsters and make sure you don’t faint. Upgrading armor is difficult if you don’t have many resources, but you can buy it if you have the available funds.

2 Make what you need

Forge Monster Hunter

If you are on a mission, and you have burned all the inventory that you have prepared for the mission, then you can quickly craft it to help you. You need resources to craft these which can be found in the quest, and you’ll also find things like jars in the quest box in the starting area.

A cool feature that you can set up is auto crafting, this is done in the crafting menu. What this allows is that once you have resources and space in your inventory, that item will be crafted. This is great for potions and some traps, so you can always reach for them in the item bar when fighting.
