Vice The dark side of the ring Its long-awaited fourth season is currently in production. PWInsiderMike Johnson provided an update on the show on Wednesday, stating that three episodes of the season will cover Abdullah the Butcher, Awesome Mike, and Bam Bam Bigelow. Mick Foley, Terry Funk, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, and Jim Cornette were interviewed to cover these topics.
The year 2022 came and went without any news in Season 4, as series creators Jason Eisner and Evan Hosny have turned their attention to the Tales from the Lands series produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. Eisner told ComicBook last September, “(Show case) isn’t something I can quite answer yet, but it’s not…we’re definitely thinking about more Dark Side of the Ring. It’s definitely something that, hopefully, is in the cards in the future.” But for now, we’re getting ready to release Tales from the Lands… But yeah, there’s going to be a lot of wrestling documentaries coming out of me.”
There were also rumors going around that WWE tried to cancel the series because it didn’t portray or manage it positively. Hosni shut down that rumor while on Journey of two professional men podcast last November.
“There were some rumors about how WWE was pressuring A&E not to air our shows and it could have been very controversial, so they were going to cancel it. VICE would never do that because it’s their most successful show,” Hosny said. “If Dark Side wasn’t successful, I couldn’t do another season. That was a weird thing where, yeah, season three had some really controversial moments, I could see where people put two and two together, and we see that happen every single day.” In a wrestling news cycle of people guessing with the rumor mill and speculating on what one thing means and two things are like, you put it together and you have a story. That’s how our news cycle works. I totally understand how people come to that conclusion 99.9% of the time with anything, Any plot, is always the most boring answer or reason. In this case, the boring answer is we just made another offer for a second.”
