Former Houston Astro Carlos Correa is making a charity trip to Uvalde to help survivors of the Texas school shooting

UVALDE, TX (KTRK) – Former Astros star Carlos Correa has stopped playing in Houston. However, he continues to make an impact in Texas.

With the help of several donors, including Houston-based Lily’s Toy Box, the Correa Family Foundation has traveled to Uvalde to deliver personalized toys and $1,000 gift cards to the families of survivors of the mass shooting from Room 112 at Robb Elementary School.

In May 2022, 19 students and two teachers were killed during a mass shooting at Rupp Elementary School In the adjacent chapters – 111 and 112.

Carlos Correa personally matched monetary and gift card donations.

The Correa Family Foundation wrote of the gesture: “For the souls of Heaven, we continue to pray. For the Hearts of Earth, we hope to continue to bring smiles.”

Last season, before playing his first game against his former team after signing with the Minnesota Twins, Carlos met Yevaldi native Maya Zamora. Maya was seriously injured Archery at Rob Elementary School.

Upon learning that the shooting suspect was living far from her home, Maya was unable to return home. So, with the help of donations from several Astros players, the Correa Family Foundation secured financing to build a new home for the Zamora family in Uvalde.

Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins play the Astros from May 29 through May 31. It will be the first home game in Houston after the first anniversary of the Rupp Elementary school shooting.
