PSN Down for many PlayStation users

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) went down this afternoon for many users. On the day PlayStation witnesses one of the biggest launches of the year on the PS5 in Hogwarts Legacy (at least through Early Access), the online service that powers PlayStation consoles appears to have been plagued by issues. And while it’s not yet clear what might be causing this problem, there’s a good chance those at Sony are looking for a solution right now.

Within the past hour, PlayStation users on both PS5 and PS4 have begun to furiously report that PSN was experiencing an outage. Based on reported outages from users seen at bottom detectorPSN problems started around 4:30 PM ET today and have swelled over time. At the time of writing, these PSN issues have not yet been resolved, which means that a number of people cannot play games online or access other features associated with PlayStation’s online services.

The most common problem that PlayStation users seem to encounter results in a message that says, “This content cannot be used. The server cannot be contacted to verify your license. Wait a while and try again.” While this is a common problem that appears with PlayStation from time to time, usually all that needs to be done to fix the problem is to restore licenses from the PS5 or PS4 menu. This time, though, that fix doesn’t work, which means Sony has bigger problems on their end for now.

As mentioned, Sony has yet to make a statement on the status of the PSN, so it’s hard to know how long a proper fix might come. Usually, when such outages occur, they tend not to last for a long period of time. So, if you’re having issues with your PS5 or PS4, hopefully, it won’t end up affecting your ability to play different games for a longer period.

Did today’s PSN outage affect your ability to play games on PS5 or PS4? Either let me know in the comments or be sure to reach out to me on Twitter at Amen.
