Deputies said a 13-year-old girl was hit by a window bullet while she was sleeping in Cuykendall in northwest Harris County.

Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – Deputies are searching for whoever shot and killed a 13-year-old in northwest Harris County in the middle of the night.

The 13-year-old was asleep in her bed at about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday when the bullet entered her window, injuring her.

It happened in an apartment complex at 15400 Kuykendahl Road near FM-1960.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies said the girl was transported to the hospital in reasonable condition. She is expected to survive.

“I’d just go to the store and come back, and now I’m hearing that a little girl was shot. You know, it makes me want to stick around the lease already. I’ve only been here a couple of days,” said a neighbor who’s a father of two young kids and just moved into the complex, “literally. My Yu Hall is still there.”

Now, investigators are trying to find out who pulled the trigger.

Deputies at the scene did not provide details about any leads they might have. No one has been arrested.

Deputies said the girl’s mother and two other children were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.

The mother told investigators she believes the drive-by shooting, but deputies said they’re not 100 percent sure that’s what happened.

“There is evidence – specifically collected wrappers that were in the car park,” Representative Ryan Hills said. Whether they were in a vehicle or on foot or not, this is still being determined.”

If you live in the area and see anything or hear a gunshot, the detectives want to talk to you. You can contact the HCSO Violent Crime Unit at 713-274-9365 or Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
