LeBron James breaks the NBA scoring record, beating Los Angeles Lakers star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Los Angeles — Lakers superstar LeBron James is now the leading scorer in the NBA, overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

James made history in the third quarter with a miss bucket against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in front of a sold out Crypto.com Arena.

The Lakers star scored 20 points in the first half to snatch 16 points from Abdul-Jabbar. The third quarter started with a series of 3-pointers dropping to get even closer.

The audience was filled with star power. Jay-Z, Bad Bunny, Denzel Washington, Dwyane Wade, and John McEnroe were among the many stars in attendance.

Other Lakers legends such as Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Bob McAdoo attended, along with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

James’s mother, wife and three children watched from the field amid thousands who woke up in waves of anticipation almost every time James touched the ball.

James entered the match at the Crypto.com Arena behind Abdul-Jabbar by 36 points.

Abdul-Jabbar scored 38,387 points in his 20-year career with the Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks. Became league champion in 1984.

James is one of seven players to score 30,000 career points and the youngest player in NBA history to do so. James, 38, is averaging 30 points per game this season.
