Morrissey has been working hard to bring new music to his fans over the past few years, but none of it has been released. He’s previously spoken openly about writing and recording his 2021 record, Bonfire of Teenagers, but it never came out. Now, the British star has claimed that his label is to blame.
Morrissey posted an angry statement earlier this week, claiming he’s “too diverse” for Universal Music Group.
“Capitol Records (Los Angeles) will not, after all, release Morrissey’s 2021 album ‘Bonfire of Teenagers,’” the statement read. Meanwhile, Capitol Records (Los Angeles) is holding the album.”
The album was originally recorded throughout 2020 and 2021, but has yet to be released – despite the fact that it was finished. The star even released a single from the record in November 2022, titled Rebel Without Applause.
The statement continued: “Although Morrissey is officially signed to Capitol Records Los Angeles, there has been no mention of Morrissey on the Capitol website or on their artist roster.”
At the time of this writing, the Capitol Records website still does not reference Morrissey on their artist roster.
She continued, “Morrissey said that although he doesn’t believe Los Angeles-based Capitol Records signed ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ in order to ruin it, he’s quickly closing in on that belief.”
Back in November, the star’s 14th studio album was “postponed.” Morrissey, again, wrote on his website: “Teens are no longer scheduled to be shot in February, as stated by this site. Its fate is exclusively in the hands of Capitol Records.” Since then, this charming man has been working on a new album, Without Music, The World Dies. The fifteenth record reportedly began production in January 2023.

Morrissey opened up about this new record in December. His statement read: “Studio time has been booked for January and February 2023 when Morrissey will record his new album without Music The World Dies.”
She added, “The record will be Morrissey’s fifth studio album. Produced by ten Grammy winner Joe Ciccarelli, the band is still Jesse Tobias, Gustavo Manzur, Alan White, Juan Galliano and Brendan Buckley. The twelve songs were written by Morrissey with Alan Whyte, Jesse Tobias, Gustavo Manzur. No There is still a record label for the project, and ways to achieve worldwide distribution are being sought.
Morrissey commented, “The songs are great, of course, and even the constant hardships we’ve been through lately aren’t enough to kill us.”
At the moment, the album has been given a tentative release date of September 2023.
Morrissey has previously been at the center of controversy surrounding his former bandmate, Johnny Marr, as well.
The Smith family split in 1987 due to “conflicts between Marr and Morrissey”. In a harsh blog post on his website, Morrissey stated that he wanted the guitarist to stop “using his name for clickbait”.
He said, “This isn’t ranting or hysterical. It’s a polite, calmly calculated request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews? Would you rather, instead, discuss your career, your unstoppable individual accomplishments and your own music? If you could, would you leave me?” outside please?” (sic)
He added, “The truth is that you don’t know me, you don’t know anything about my life, my intentions, my thoughts and my feelings, but you talk as if you were my personal psychiatrist with constant and uninterrupted access to my instincts.” “
