The Google Pixel 7 is one of the best Android phones you can buy, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro is one of the best phones, period. But the devices are not without their problems. We’ve already reported a number of issues affecting both Pixel 7 models since launch, but there’s another issue to add to the list — volume buttons falling off.
AndroidCentral (Opens in a new tab)Nichola Sutrich wrote about the issue earlier this week, revealing that they had first-hand experience with volume buttons going off. Judging from the photos, there doesn’t seem to be any kind of additional damage, just that the volume button has been completely detached from Sutrich’s Pixel 7 Pro side.
Sutrich isn’t the only person reporting this problem either. Quick search for Google Pixel sub (Opens in a new tab) It reveals that several users have had problems with the volume button falling off the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro — both independent posts and comments on other threads. There is, too more (Opens in a new tab) from one (Opens in a new tab) Google support thread regarding the issue, along with other issues with volume.
While a lot of people report that Google replaces this issue under warranty, it’s really strange to experience what’s still a fairly new phone — and a major hassle if that means sending the phone back to Google. at least 1 user (Opens in a new tab) Claims that Google told them to take their phones to a nearby repair shop, only to be told parts were not available because the Pixel 7 Pro is so new. This is… less than ideal, to say the least.
Some users have reported being able to turn the volume button back on, provided it wasn’t lost after a fall, but this didn’t seem to feel particularly safe. However, others said they couldn’t even manage this.
It’s not entirely clear why this happens, especially since the Pixel 7’s volume button isn’t much different from the button found on other phones — including the likes of the Pixel 6. Unfortunately, being a hardware issue, the only permanent solution is to Submit a warranty claim (Opens in a new tab) With Google and install the button professionally.
one of The best Pixel 7 cases It may help keep the button in place for now, but this will only be a temporary solution. You’re better off solving this problem sooner than later, and risk additional obstacles getting in your way. Fortunately, as common as this problem is, it does not appear to be widespread.
Sadly, this is just another Pixel 7 issue to add to the list, following on from the likes Shattered camera glass And Inconsistent scrolling issues. Hopefully, we won’t see any more hardware issues pop up over the coming weeks and months.
