Brendan Fraser recalls how he “almost died” while filming The Mummy

Brendan Fraser remembers a scary incident on the set mummy. “I accidentally suffocated in the hanging sequence,” Fraser told Clarkson of what went wrong with the stunt. “I was standing on my toes like that, on the rope [around my neck], and you just have to go away. And [director Stephen Sommers] He ran over and said, “Hey, it doesn’t really look like you’re, you know, choking — can you sell it?” And I said, “Okay, okay.” So I thought, ‘Take another one, man.’ “

Fraser continued, “The camera panned, and I came up on my toes, and the guy who was holding the rope above me lifted it up a little bit and I got stuck on my toes. I had nowhere to go but down, and so he was pulling up, and I was coming down. Next thing I knew, My elbow was in my ear, the world was sideways, there was grit in my teeth, and everyone was really quiet.”
