How to find a wake walk

A trainer getting ready to fight the Walking Wake Pokemon in vermilion.

Walking Wake resides in 5-star Tera Raid dens. In order to unlock the dens of that difficulty, you will have to complete the game and view the end credits. After that, Professor Jack will contact you and tell you that the most difficult raid dens appear. If you haven’t completed the game yet, you have plenty of time to do so before the event ends.

Walking Wake is also found in Pokémon Scarlet’s Tera Raid Dens. If you have Pokémon Violet, you’ll either have to join the Tera Raid of a friend who has Pokémon Scarlet through a link code or search for a Tera Raid Board for anyone hosting a Walking Wake raid online.

If you have Pokémon Scarlet, you can just look at your map for the Tera Raid Den event. You will be able to distinguish the lair from the rest of the normal lair by the way it shines on the map. Plus, Walking Wake will have water as his tera type, so that narrows it down even more. You will also shine noticeably in the outside world.

If you don’t see any Walking Wake Tera Raid Dens, you can change your clock time in the system settings to 1 minute before the new day starts (11:59 PM) and then back into the game to wait for the day to change. This resets all dens (plus outbreaks if you want to scan for dens) on the map to the new dens, which can cause an Event Den to appear. If it doesn’t, you can just repeat the process.

What type/Pokemon to use?

A Pawmot Terasttalizing to the electric type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Since the Walking Wake is waterproof like the Tera type, that means your best bets are all types that are highly effective against water: Grass and Electric. While Grass seems like a strong choice at first, Walking Wake has Flamethrower, which becomes even more powerful with Sunny Day. You would be better off using Electric-type Pokémon to fight Walking Wake. At the very least, your choice should be a Pokémon that has an Electric like Tera Type.

If you don’t have any Electric Pokemon at your disposal, focus on choosing a Pokemon type that can handle Paradox Legendary’s attack moves. Being the Walking Wake’s Tera Type, plus it boosts Hydro Steam power, your priority should be one that resists water. The types of waterproof Pokemon are water, grass, and dragon. On the other hand, you’ll want to avoid using Fire-, Ground-, and Rock-type Pokémon. Be sure to consider Pokémon that resist Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower as well.

The recommended Pokémon to use is the one that has Sp. Def, one that can abuse Walking Wake’s Tera Type weakness or both. A great Pokemon is Pawmot, because it has a wide variety of attack and status moves that can tip the battle in your favor (including some that will be explained later). It’s Sp. The Def Def stat isn’t the best, but an item could be used to take care of that, such as an attack vest (although it does come at the cost of stat moves).

strategy

Walking Wake using her Hydro Steam move in Pokemon Scarlet.

One helpful strategy is to focus on lowering your Sp. Attack power. The first way to do this is to deal with Sunny Day. Throwing it will remove your elemental boost, and since Sunny Day isn’t actually part of its moveset, you don’t have to worry about using that move again. It is recommended to use Rain Dance to cancel this. While this may seem like a counterintuitive method, the boost Hydro Steam gets from rainy weather is less than it does from sunny weather. Also, it will reduce the power of your flamethrower and other Fire-type attacks, so it’s a much safer measure all around.

You can also lower Sp. Attack with status moves. Given the previous suggestion of using Electric-type Pokemon, the move Strange motive It is a solid choice. It also reduces stats by two stages, which will be a huge hit to your damage output if you use it at least twice. Just be careful not to try it once it has gathered energy around itself because status moves simply don’t work after that point.

On the attacking side, it is the base of Defense and Sp. The balancing stats aren’t that great, the former being 91 and the latter 83. Since they aren’t far from each other either, you don’t lose much if you focus on one attack type over the other. If you want maximum damage output regardless, be sure to use special attack moves on your physical attack moves.

On the subject of attacking him, don’t be too careful of Noble Roar. While it reduces your Attack and Sp. Atk stat, it’s only one stage and often one of the two stats is important. It can be completely circumvented by cheering to boost both stats. Alternatively, you can use a move that increases your stats. This is recommended over cheers if you have a move that boosts your stats by more than one stage like Sword Dance, or anything that also boosts your Sp. Def stat along with that like calm mind.

Catching a walk

Once you defeat the Walking Wake, you are free to catch it in any PokeBall you want without fail. Choose wisely though, as you can only capture it once per file saved. You are free to continue searching for Walking Wake and fighting until the event ends, but you won’t be able to catch up with another one.
