Actor Lt Mickey wasn’t the only cast member to suffer from Ford’s rudeness and bullying. Henry Fonda, co-star of Wayne’s Lt. Col. Owen Thursday, found the director’s stubborn refusal to repeat emotional scenes infuriating.

Fonda found that if he wanted to discuss a scene with Ford, the director would change the subject or tell him to shut up. The star also found the insults and bullying of the director very upsetting, to the point of bringing him to tears.

Wives and girlfriends weren’t allowed on the Monument Valley set, but Duke Michael Wayne’s son was. He recalled: “I literally saw tears pouring out from Henry Fonda’s eyes on Fort Apache. He turned and walked away.”
