Taron Egerton talks about upcoming James Bond rumors and admits his fears 007 | Movies | entertainment

A year and a half after the release of Daniel Craig’s last James Bond movie, speculation still swirls about his replacement. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson let go of the idea that the next 007 could be of any race but had to be male and possibly someone in their 30s. One star with action expertise and plenty of humor to boot is Taron Egerton.

The 33-year-old played Sir Elton John in Rocketman and had his big break with the spy satire Kingsman. Egerton, who stars in the new Tetris movie coming to Apple TV+ at the end of the month, is currently 33-1 to be the next James Bond.

In recent years, there has been some fan buzz around him, but does he have what it takes to be 007? The star spoke about the matter in a new interview and admitted his fears about the coveted role.

talk with telegraphEgerton said, “I don’t think I’m the right choice for that. You always have to bust to be that guy. And that’s something I’m still striving for. I’ve always struggled with my weight.” The 33-year-old admitted that he finds himself working out the amount of time he needs to spend in the gym when the role is presented.

He continued:[Playing Bond] It’s a bit like being a brand ambassador as well as being an actor. And that might be really fun in microcosm, but I’m sure I read Barbara Broccoli said it’s a 15-year commitment. It’s kind of irrelevant to how I feel about it, anyway, because I can tell you there were no phone calls.” Still, he does feel positive about returning to the role of Eggsy in Kingsman 3.

Having starred in the first two films opposite Colin Firth, both Egerton and director Matthew Vaughn “have very strong opinions about [on] How it should look. Matthew and I complement each other well, but we’re just so different. I think the most interesting question is: if Eggsy is the recruit at 22, then who is 35? What did you do with him those 13 years? If you had to live in this Kingsman world, what would it do for you? “

Meanwhile, Vaughn is currently working on his new spy thriller Argylle starring Henry Cavill, and is a Bond frontrunner with Aaron Taylor-Johnson at 5-2.
