Authorities said three children died Saturday morning in a home fire in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Fire Department said on Twitter that firefighters rescued the three children and two adults from the burning home before sunrise. Just before 5:30am local time, firefighters reached Bradhurst Road where a two-storey house was on fire due to thick smoke, authorities said.

The children died soon after. Authorities said the adults remain in critical condition.

The fire department did not release any other details about the fire, but said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
