The new Lego Racing game is reported to be in closed beta

It started with a prompt from podcaster Shpeshal_Nick on XboxEraA previously reported LEGO racing game allegedly called LEGO 2K Drive has started making the rounds and is currently in closed beta.

It was reported last year by VGC that LEGO will be partnering with Take-Two 2K publishing division for a line of LEGO sports games, one of which was an open-world racing title presumably due out later this year. This recent XboxEra report would align with that claim, as a playable beta usually means the game is relatively close to release, and there are still nine months left for this year.

indoor games It later backed up XboxEra’s claim, confirming that it also understands that the game’s title is LEGO 2K Drive and that a closed beta is currently underway.

According to VGC, the Lego racing game is in development at Visual Concepts, the 2K-owned, California-based team that has long been the helm of the prolific NBA 2K series, and recently acquired the WWE 2K series as well. It appears the studio has continued to add more to its palette, and is now reportedly set to helm three different (if that’s LEGO racing) sports series. Become string, that is).

Details about the game are still very scarce. VGC’s original report described it simply as an open-world racing game, but Shpeshal_Nick expanded on the idea a bit more, stating that he understands that there are closed-loop races, which you probably get to by traversing open areas. He also described it as a “kart racer”, noting that it might have arcade-like elements, like a la Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing.

This will make sense. The pure, realistic racing physics are often left to games with realistic visuals, as they attempt to simulate real driving. Meanwhile, games with cartoony graphics, of which this purported Lego no doubt is, often take advantage of their unrealistic nature to add more wacky gameplay elements, such as usable items, boosters, and forgiving physics.
