The artist's new exhibition fuses art with basketball in homage to the Final Four

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – As the city of Houston prepares to host the Final Four, the first-ever playable basketball court art exhibit is open for viewing and play at the Museum of Contemporary Arts Houston.

Commissioned and designed by renowned Houston-based artist Trenton Doyle Hancock, Kameh court It uniquely transforms the parallelogram shape of a museum exhibit into an immersive regulation-sized basketball court. It is a uniquely lively environment that fuses Hancock’s fantasy art with a fantasy basketball experience open to all ages.

Hancock grew up in Paris, Texas, and moved to Houston 23 years ago. He said he decided to stay because of its exciting and diverse culture.

“The museum is shaped like a parallelogram, so the court had to be built like that. The art that’s placed on top of it makes this an interesting experience,” Hancock told ABC13. “It will bring people who come to the museum who’ve never been there before and experience art in a way they’ve never had before.”

The Museum says players can get sucked in from the three-point line or lose themselves in the embrace of Hancock’s striped Bringback characters, who ooze from baseline to baseline.

“I create many different types of worlds and characters, and my studio is based around the idea of gameplay. So, when I was called upon to design the playground, I was obsessed with the idea. It’s something I’ve never seen before,” said Hancock.

His shows have consistently been some of the most popular in the institution’s nearly 75-year history. His work creates new worlds for audiences to explore, and CAMH COURT offers an extension of that, welcoming audiences into a space of imagination and play.

Guests can visit the stadium until April 27 but only have until April 23 to play on it. For more information visit Houston Museum of Contemporary Arts website.
