A Texas concert ends in a shooting, 9 injured

A shooting broke out at a concert after a concert in a town in Texas, Sunday, injuring nine people, police said.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance at a North Jasper home shortly after midnight. The local sheriff’s office said they found nine victims with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Eight of the victims were treated at a local hospital.

About 250 people were at the party.

Authorities said the people involved were questioned after the shooting. Police have not determined any motive for the shooting, but investigators have said there may be a connection to a second shooting that occurred within the city limits of Jasper on Valley Drive. Police did not immediately release additional information about the second shooting.

John Siebold, superintendent of the Jasper Independent School District, said in a statement to CBS affiliate KEYE-TV.

“We first want to say our prayers with those injured early Sunday morning in the shootings that took place north of the city,” Siebold said. “Jasper ISD is working with law enforcement in any way we can to assist in their investigation to bring these perpetrators to justice. There will be a much greater law enforcement presence this week to ensure the safety of students, as well as counselors available for any student who needs their help.”

The ages of the victims have not yet been released.

Jasper is located in eastern Texas, about 40 miles from the Louisiana border.
