Passengers of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship take to sea on a trip to Hawaii

A company spokesperson confirmed Wednesday to CBS News that a passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship went overboard during a voyage from Australia to Hawaii.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said the ship’s crew is working with local authorities on search and rescue operations. Quantum of the Seas left Brisbane on 12 April, and was scheduled to arrive in Honolulu on 28 April.

The cruise line did not specify when or where the ship was when the guest passed the ship. A passenger aboard the Quantum of the Seas posted about the incident on social media early Wednesday.

“Three medical emergencies and now a man at sea,” passenger Joshua Reynolds wrote on Facebook. “We’ve slowed down and are turning around now. I hope they can be found.”

CBS News has reached out to the US Coast Guard and Australian officials.

In December, A.J Cruise passenger died After falling off MSC Meraviglia, about 18 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral, Florida.
