Google is bringing more ads to the Play Store in newly expanded formats

This has happened before, and it will happen again, so it doesn’t come as a complete surprise when we see new reports about Google adding more ads to existing platforms and services. We’ve seen at the top of the month Google experiment with more ads in Gmail, placing them in once-sacred places, and now we’re seeing reports that Google is optimizing new ad placements in the Play Store. While you can’t blame the company for trying to increase its revenue, especially during these times, sometimes the lines start to blur, making it difficult to distinguish ads from real recommendations.

It’s unclear how widespread this new ad layout will be, however Android Share some screenshots from reader Moshe showing how Google is implementing a new ad layout in the Play Store. At first glance, things don’t look very different, but if you take a closer look, you’ll notice an increase in the Ads section in the “Items Suggested For You” area. Previously, before the change, the section displayed only one row of applications, displaying a maximum of three applications at a time.

With the new change, users are now presented with two rows of apps, with the app thumbnail expanded, and more screen real estate dedicated to the ads section. By adding another row of ads, of course, the Play Store now pushes recommended apps down, requiring users to spend more time and energy when it comes to navigating the Play Store. For some, this new layout may be a challenge or a bit confusing, especially if you are used to the previous layout.

As mentioned earlier, it’s not clear at this point how widespread this new ad layout will be, since examining some of the available devices, Google appears to have increased the ads in the Play Store in the “Recommended for you” section, but things seem to be a little different than described above. . As usual, we’ve reached out to Google to find out what’s going on. The company is constantly testing different iterations of its ads on many of its services, so it wouldn’t be surprising to get a statement with similar information.
