3 in custody leading to a police car chase for a man who was found dead: HPD

Aleph, TX (KTRK) – Police said three suspects are in custody after they led police on a car chase for a man who was killed in southwest Houston.

At around 12:30pm on Thursday, police were called to Block 9900 in S Dere Ashford, where a man was found by the manager of an apartment complex on the ground in the car park.

When HPD officers arrived, they confirmed that the man was dead. The cause of his death was not immediately released, but Det. David Crowder said the man’s injuries appeared to be “extremely traumatic, likely gunshot.”

Police believe the victim may have been mugged as his pockets were turned inside out and his car was taken.

As information spread about the scene, plainclothes officers were near the South Beltway and Gessner, where they found the victim’s car. The officers tried to stop the car, but instead the suspects led the police on a short chase in Sugar Land, which ended near Interstate 6.

The suspects then jumped out of the car, but the police managed to find them behind Whole Foods.

Police said the car involved in the chase belonged to the victim who was found dead in S Derry Ashford but it was unclear how the suspects came into possession of it.

The victim has not been identified, but police said he was a Hispanic man in his 30s.

The case is still under investigation.
