Montgomery County storm: Cape Malibu area residents remain without power two days after torrential rains caused extensive damage

Montgomery County, Texas (KTRK) – It’s been two days since severe thunderstorms hit Montgomery County, knocking out power lines and downing trees, and residents are still struggling.

Officials estimate that 30 to 40 homes were damaged in the Cape Malibu sub-district.

“I want my husband to recover,” said Debbie Mason. “I don’t want him to come home because of this pressure.”

Debbie’s husband, James, has been hospitalized since the storm hit on Tuesday.

“It was just a giant wall of water. It was tearing trees apart and tossing them like they were nothing. I saw a fish come out of it, which was the craziest thing. I saw a catfish come out of it and land on the grass. I tried to get back inside, and it tore the door out of my hand in the front.”

“My whole body took over, and I was in so much pain. I called the ambulance.”

James suffered a stress-induced heart attack, according to his doctors.

On Thursday, the streets were mostly empty of trees and power lines, but rebuilding will take time, money and patience.

“I’ve lived here all my life. Sixty-eight years and this is the first time I’ve experienced something like this. I pray I never do it again,” said resident Pam Byrom.

Another resident, Cindy Johnson, said, “We’re just helping each other. That’s all you can do.” “A good opportunity to meet the neighbors.”

“Just devastated, but I’m sure it will be fixed,” Debbie added.
