Next Breaking James Bond: Idris Elba’s odds halved after TV news | Movies | entertainment

Ever since Daniel Craig quit James Bond in 2021 after No Time To Die, the hunt has continued to see who the next James Bond will be.

Bond directors Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have admitted they’re looking for the next 007 star, but they likely won’t announce anything official for another year or so.

However, Idris Elba – one of the mainstays in the Bond prospects – has his prospects significantly reduced after a new trailer dropped.

Previously, Bond bosses said he was “part of the conversation” when it came to the next Bond film – and these new possibilities from Corral now reflect that.

The leading bookmaker has given Elba incredible odds of 7/1 becoming the next James Bond, down from 14/1 in the last 24 hours.

Elba’s increased fan support comes after the release of the Apple TV Plus trailer for Hijack.

The upcoming TV show Elba stars in a stark and commanding role as Sam Nelson, a businessman who uses his skills to bring about a peaceful end to a plane hijacking.

John Hill of Choral said, “The trailer for Hijack has tipped the backing for Idris Elba to become the next James Bond. This latest series will likely boost Elba’s chances of landing the iconic 007 role, which is why his odds have been halved in our bets.”

But Elba himself said he didn’t want the part. “It’s not a goal in my career,” he recently explained. “I don’t think playing Bond is going to satisfy some of my personal goals. It will certainly satisfy the will of a nation. I’m not going to lie, every corner of the world I go to, and I talk about different cultures, they always go ‘Bond’. And I feel it’s out of me at that intersection.” It is beyond me. It is not a matter of, Should I, do, should I, that the will of a nation sometimes dictates.”

With that said, Elba has some major competition in Bond prospects. Topping the list now is Aaron Taylor-Johnson who became the cool 15/8 spy, and with rumors surfacing that he’s already done some screen tests for Bond heads, things could happen pretty quickly.

Meanwhile, Happy Valley star James Norton is also a candidate for the stunning 5/2 role.
