Presumably, Gollum’s freaky release doesn’t stop Daedalic from developing another LOTR game

Despite receiving an absolute hit from critics and fans, Daedalic Entertainment appears to be working on another Lord Of The Rings game. The studio just released its first game based on the hit series, The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, which quickly became the worst-reviewed game of the year.

As reported by the German outlet Gameswirtschaft.deDetails of the second Lord Of The Rings game were discovered by Daedalic in Database of video game projects Receive the support of the German government. The project’s codename is “It’s Magic,” and it’s set to launch by August of 2024 with €2 million in support from the German government.

The database even provides a full description of the rumored game, which we’ve included below:

Daedalic is working on a new project that will take the player into a lush world full of mythical creatures and magic. It tells a story from the perspective of a character who has never been seen before. The player discovers entirely new areas and influences the events of the world within the scope of his role and abilities. In his own way, he tries to influence the course of things and change the fate of the world. This project is aimed at fans of fantasy and 3D adventure genres around the world.

We must stress that, apart from the details taken from the German database, there has been no official announcement regarding the second Lord Of The Rings game by Daedalic Entertainment. If the rumor is true, the game will likely be in development before The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is even released. But given Gollum’s stunning failure, it’s possible that the rumored second game will never see the light of day.

Currently, The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum has a “Mostly Negative” review rating on Steam and is the worst reviewed game of 2023, with a Metacritic score of 38. Various outlets state that The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is not riddled with bugs and glitches, but It also has poor level design, clunky controls, and a weak storyline.
