Ubisoft confirms there is no more Prince of Persia remake

Ubisoft has no plans to make any additional Prince of Persia remakes. Remakes are a very notable thing that has come up over the past decade or so in the gaming industry. A lot of beloved franchises and games have become old enough that they’re largely inaccessible or old-fashioned, which makes them a little unattractive for people who want to revisit them or those who want to try them out for the first time. Therefore, publishers realized that they could make quite a bit of money by updating these classics with modern graphics, better controls, and even modified storylines. Some remakes are better than others, but overall, they tend to be fairly good in most cases.

With that said, Ubisoft has announced a new version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Several years ago now and it was supposed to come out fairly quickly after its announcement, but it’s pretty much disappeared. Believe it or not, the game was pretty much rebooted internally and Ubisoft went back to the drawing board. This news was very disappointing to a lot of fans, but the news just keeps getting worse. Ubisoft confirmed He has no plans to make more Prince of Persia remakes. The publisher didn’t go into any further details, but one can assume that’s simply because Ubisoft has struggled to make one of these things that it just doesn’t want to commit to anymore. Perhaps if this remake works incredibly well, Ubisoft will find it hard to ignore the potential for more, but that remains to be seen.

This is not to say that Ubisoft is against remakes as a whole. The company is currently remaking the first Splinter Cell game. It’s been in early development for some time, so it’s unclear how far away it is from its release, but hopefully we’ll get an update on it later this summer. Either way, remakes are obviously a bit more difficult than just making an old game with nicer graphics!
