It can be hard to keep up with the upcoming movies that are streaming on top streaming services every month. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered: June 2023 is your last chance to stream these great movies on Netflix and Hulu.
These titles will likely return or be picked up by another streaming service in the coming months. But when and where is anyone’s guess. In the meantime, put your subscription to work and watch (or rewatch) these seven departures, including blockbuster comedies, satirical classic horror flicks, and a documentary about musicals that weren’t meant to have a mass audience.
Here’s what to watch before they leave Netflix and Hulu in June 2023.
The best movies leaving Hulu
Dunkirk (2017)
I usually don’t like war movies very much, but Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning World War II period drama had me on the edge of my seat. Dunkirk is a fictional story set in the very real events of the 1940 evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches of northern France. After a surprise attack leaves them surrounded by encroaching Nazi German forces, they are forced to retreat to the beaches of Dunkirk, stranded and their hopes of rescue quickly dashed. That changes when dozens of British civilians jump into action to help rescue the soldiers using whatever boat is available.
Instead of following a linear storyline, Dunkirk alternates between three different time periods and groups of characters during battle and rescue. And despite being a war movie, it doesn’t touch on the more gruesome elements of battle. It struck me as more of a cinematic thriller than a typical war movie.

American Psycho (2000)
In 1991, the novel “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis shocked readers with its gory accounts of the double life of a serial killer. Nine years later, Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, The Machinist) does the same in this movie adaptation.
Patrick Bateman is a wealthy New York professional by day and a psychopath with a bloodlust by night. The ending of American Psycho is notoriously ambiguous, leaving much for the viewer to decide what really happened and what’s just going on in Bateman’s mind. Its true meaning is still debated among many fans to this day.

Information Technology (2017)
I’ll be honest, I had no interest in this remake of Stephen King’s classic horror novel when it was first announced. I was blown away by the first It adaptation, except for Tim Curry’s performance as the terrifying supervillain clown Pennywise, which of course was iconic. But my mind did 180 after Bill Skarsgard captured the character in a trailer.
His performance is truly unsettling, with incredibly creepy voice work and facial mannerisms that nail it on Feeling of the uncanny valley. The movie also thrives thanks to its stellar cast of child actors, led by Jaden Martell who plays Bill Denbrough with a dependable crispness and Sophia Lillis (Sharp Things) as Beverly Marsh, who steals the show.

Bridesmaids (2011)
Bridesmaids is a hilarious and smartly written comedy about how messy female friendships can be. Annie (Kristen Wiig) is happily engaged to her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) and is honored to be maid of honor. Unfortunately, this couldn’t come at a worse time.
Annie’s life is a mess. She had to close the doors of her struggling bakery and was recently dumped by her boyfriend. Maid of honor duties can get expensive, and she’s broke. However, she is still determined to do the right thing by Lillian, but is resentful of her other maid of honor, the wealthy and seemingly idealistic Helen (Rose Byrne). Annie snaps, drama unfolds, and hustle and bustle ensues.

The Fog (2007)
Adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 novel of the same name, The Mist follows a group of survivors who take shelter in a grocery store after a mysterious fog envelops their town. It soon becomes clear that something deadly is lurking outside, but the most dangerous threat of all comes from within as fear and superstition turn into something far more sinister.
This sci-fi horror film is directed by Frank Darabont, who is no stranger to successfully bringing King’s work to the big screen. Darabont has directed both The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. The ending of The Mist is among the best twists in horror, and is sure to leave you shaken. I remember watching him when he first came out and I left the stage stunned and terrified.

Jerry Maguire (1996)
Tom Cruise may be known for high-octane action thrillers like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun, but his performance in the Jerry Maguire comedy remains one of his most cited roles to date. Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, Cruz stars as the titular sports agent as he juggles managing the career of his superstar client (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and a budding relationship with Renee Zellweger’s character.
The film opens after Maguire has an epiphany that prompts him to write a mission statement about everything that is wrong with their profession and how to fix it. When he presents this to his colleagues, naively expecting them to embrace his new worldview, he is promptly fired and seeks to start his own company. What follows is a mix of sports drama, quirky romcom, and a likable character study all at once.
Jerry Maguire has produced several famous quotes such as “Show me the money!” and “You had me in Hello” and it’s often listed among the best sports movies ever made.

Bathtubs Over Broadway (2018)
Bathtubs Over Broadway is a documentary that dives into the wacky and wacky world of industrial musicals, aka company-commissioned song-and-dance productions from the golden age of American capitalism.
It follows comedy writer Steve Young, who first stumbled upon the obscure and unknown genre in the ’90s while scavenging vinyl records for a Late Show with a David Letterman segment. His discovery of music sponsored and produced by General Motors led to a decades-long obsession.
Diving into its history, Young traces the singers and writers who worked on some of these shows, which included songs like “Diesel Dazzle,” “Who Else But Whirlpool,” and “22 Slices of Bread.” He also interviewed the small but dedicated community of collectors who work to preserve these limited edition records for future generations. It’s a quirky but undeniably irreverent tour of one of Broadway’s forgotten back alleys.
