Two men are killed and one injured in a mobile home fire in northwest Harris County

Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – Two people have died after a mobile home caught fire in northwest Harris County.

The Northwest Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 6200 Killough Street, not far from SH-249, just before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

It was a passer-by who was the first to notice something was wrong. He told ABC13 that he was in the area and saw the smoke and came to see what was happening.

By the time the witness stopped, a 57-year-old man had already exited the burning house, but two other men were still inside.

Firefighters said the two Hispanic men were unable to reach safety and died inside the home.

The man who managed to get out was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Firefighters said there wasn’t much left of the mobile home. The ceiling and floor completely collapsed. They said modifications would have to be made to reinforce the floor and make it safe for investigators to enter and retrieve the bodies.

“It was a little unusual, and I hadn’t seen him there like, like, two minutes before. I was like, ‘That’s not right.'” “So, I checked it out, and I hoped it was like fire, but no, man, the whole house was on fire,” said witness Marco Ponce.

Fire officials said they don’t know what caused the fire to start, and at this time, they can’t tell if the fire started indoors or outdoors.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s office is working to determine the cause of the fire.
