On Wednesday, Jamal Shade announced that he had withdrawn his name from the 2023 NBA draft and would return to play his senior season.

“When writing your story, don’t let anyone else hold the pen. I will be taking my name out of the NBA Draft to go back to Houston. This season has pages left to be written…” Shedd wrote in a statement that concluded with the hashtag “#ToBeContinued.”

Shead, who is from Manor, Texas, just outside of Austin, arrived at UH as a four-star recruit, choosing Coogs over Texas A& M, among other schools.

He was part of the three previous Coogs teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. His career game came in the Sweet Sixteen game over Arizona in 2022, when he scored a tournament-high 21 points.

Meanwhile, Shedd’s teammates — Sasser and freshman forward Jaras Walker — are hoping to hear their names during the June 22 NBA draft.

Three weeks out from the draft, ESPN Walker finished seventh overall and Sasser finished thirty-seventh. Walker is the highest power forward available.
