Oshi no Ko broke a huge sales record amid the rise of anime

Oshi no Ko is on another level. Created by Asa Akasaka, the manga idol may look bland on the outside, but don’t let its looks fool you. There’s a lot hiding under Oshi no Ko’s surface just like the idol industry itself. This year, Oshi no Ko found itself bigger than ever due to the rise of its anime, and now the Shueisha title has broken another sales record.

Yes, this is correct. Oshi no Ko again as the manga officially did It reached 9 million copies It has a circulation of only 11 volumes in total. That’s already a million more than what we saw in the manga sales report from this spring, so it’s undeniable that Akasaka’s manga is booming.

Indeed, Oshi no Ko has quickly become one of the most popular fan titles around. The franchise has brought eyes from all over the world after Oshi no Ko dropped its extended premiere. Not only was the first episode beautifully animated, it featured a plot twist like never before. Oshi no Ko manages to drop a cliffhanger that rivals that of mega-hits like Puella Magi Madoka Magica. So of course, the audience was hooked from day one.

Oshi no Ko is now one of the best titles to air this season as Japanese services continue to rank idol series in the top ten. As for support in the US, Oshi no Ko feels loved. The show was the biggest ever for HIDIVE when it launched last month, and there’s still more to come. Rumors are already circulating about the second season of Oshi no Ko, and Akasaka is still releasing regular chapters of the manga through the Shonen Jump+ app.

If you’re not into Oshi no Ko, you can fall for it easily enough. The show streams on HIDIVE exclusively while Yen Press handles the manga in English. For more details on Oshi no Ko, you can read its official synopsis here: “Gorou is a gynecologist with a life far removed from the glitz and glamor of the entertainment industry and the world of his favorite idol, rising star Ai Hoshino.
