HPD says a man shot with a phone drives himself to a gas station for help

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Authorities say a man sitting on the bed of his pickup truck in southwest Houston was shot multiple times when two suspects asked if he had a phone.

Houston Police Department officers responded to a shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday at 3150 Dairy Ashford Road, where a 29-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

HPD later discovered that the shooting did indeed occur along Ashford Meadow Road, just a few blocks away.

HPD First Lieutenant Izaguirre said the victim was in the bed of his truck when two black men approached him and asked if he had a phone.

“He replied that he had no phone, and at that moment, for some reason, they started firing their firearms at him, and they hit him several times,” said Esauer.

After the shooting, police said the victim was able to drive himself to a nearby petrol station on Derry Street Ashford for help.

He was taken to the hospital, where he is stable but in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting is unclear, but robbery investigators were on the scene.

Police are still looking for suspects but do not have a good description. The victim can only say that the suspects approached him on foot and did not notice a car.

Isaguerre said patrol officers describe the site as a “hot spot” with high criminal activity.
