Best Baron Zemo Decks

Marvel Snap's Baron Zemo card surrounded by Mockingbird, Yondu, Silver Surfer, and Loki.

Baron Zemo’s ability states, “On Reveal: Recruit the lowest-Cost card from your opponent’s deck to your side of this location.” This means that a player’s success depends on what’s in their opponent’s deck. This can be tricky and holds back Baron Zemo quite a bit, but there are some tactics to forcibly improve Zemo’s pulls. Baron Zemo is best played later in the game, once the opponent has whittled away the cards in their deck.

There is quite a bit of randomness in Baron Zemo’s play because players won’t know whether a strong or powerful card is on the other end of his ability. Power and Cost aside, players also need to worry about the ability of the card pulled. If players pull a card that has a damaging ability, like Yellowjacket, they can be worse off for playing Zemo. It’s a difficult card to play successfully, but this guide can help players find useful day-one decks, synergies, and even what counters to watch out for.

On Reveal: Recruit the lowest-Cost card from your opponent’s deck to your side of this location.

Baron Zemo Drain Deck

A Marvel Snap deck comprised of Baron Zemo, Sunspot, Yondu, Baron Mordo, Cable, Grandmaster, Maximus, Gladiator, Absorbing Man, Shang-Chi, Wong, and Doctor Octopus.

One use for Baron Zemo is to drain the opponent’s deck of cards. This will not only disrupt their gameplay strategy, especially if their deck revolves around one or two cards. In this deck, Baron Zemo works alongside cards like Baron Mordo, Cable, Yondu, Gladiator, and Doctor Octopus to disrupt and destroy the opponent’s win condition. This can be far more impactful than it would seem. These cards, especially when their On Reveal abilities are doubled using Absorbing Man, Wong, and Grandmaster, can cause an opponent to retreat at worst and lose at best.

Deck Contents:

  • Baron Zemo (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Sunspot (1-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Yondu (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Baron Mordo (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Cable (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Grandmaster (2-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Maximus (2-Cost, 6-Power)
  • Gladiator (3-Cost, 8-Power)
  • Absorbing Man (4-Cost, 4-Power)
  • Shang-Chi (4-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Wong (4-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Doctor Octopus (5-Cost, 10-Power)

Baron Zemo Mockingbird Deck

A Marvel Snap deck comprised of Baron Zemo, Quinjet, Snowguard, The Collector, Mirage, Zabu, Rogue, Iron Lad, Loki, Shang-Chi, Mockingbird, and Doctor Doom.

This deck focuses on Baron Zemo’s synergy with Loki and Mockingbird. With this deck, players will want to operate as they would with a Loki deck. The main goal here is to lower the Cost of Mockingbird and make a hefty play on turn six. This can be done by using Zemo, Snowguard, Mirage, and Loki to play cards that weren’t present in your starting deck. Shang-Chi is present for any unwanted high-Power cards.

Deck Contents:

  • Baron Zemo (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Quinjet (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Snowguard (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • The Collector (2-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Zabu (2-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Rogue (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Iron Lad (4-Cost, 6-Power)
  • Loki (4-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Shang-Chi (4-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Mockingbird (5-Cost, 9-Power)
  • Doctor Doom (6-Cost, 5-Power)

Baron Zemo Silver Surfer Deck

A Marvel Snap deck comprised of Baron Zemo, Yondu, Cable, Dazzler, Grandmaster, Black Widow, Brood, Debrii, Gladiator, Magik, Silver Surfer, and Mockingbird.

This deck focuses on Silver Surfer‘s ability to boost the Power of 3-Cost cards. Baron Zemo is a 3-Cost and using him, Debrii, and Brood, players can lower the Cost of Mockingbird and then end the final turn with a Silver Surfer play to get a huge boost of Power. The main goal here is to fill the board with 3-Cost cards and then use Silver Surfer to carry lanes and surprise the opponent. There’s also a bit of a disruptive element here with Black Widow, Cable, Yondu, Gladiator, and Debrii, which can help throw your opponent off their game.

Deck Contents:

  • Baron Zemo (3-Cost, 5-Power)
  • Yondu (1-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Cable (2-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Dazzler (2-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Grandmaster (2-Cost, 0-Power)
  • Black Widow (3-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Brood (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Debrii (3-Cost, 3-Power)
  • Gladiator (3-Cost, 8-Power)
  • Magik (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Silver Surfer (3-Cost, 2-Power)
  • Mockingbird (5-Cost, 9-Power)

Best Baron Zemo Counters

Marvel Snap's Baron Zemo card surrounded by Yellowjacket and Wasp.

Baron Zemo is an On Reveal card so, by default, Cosmo is a counter that players will want to watch out for. Cosmo’s effectiveness has dwindled in recent months since his play is pretty choreographed and avoidable. Some counters that players may not be thinking about, and some that are potentially unavoidable, are low-Cost cards like Yellowjacket and Wasp.

Since these are 0-Cost cards and Zemo recruits the lowest-Cost card from the opponent’s deck, one of these cards will likely be the pull if they are present. Wasp is a bit of a letdown when pulled by Zemo, but Yellowjacket can actually have damaging effects on the player’s Power. There isn’t much players can do to avoid these scenarios, but they are still outcomes that should be kept in mind.

Best Baron Zemo Synergies

Marvel Snap's Baron Zemo card surrounded by Yondu and Mockingbird.

Yondu is a great card to pair with Zemo. Since Baron Zemo will pull the lowest-Cost card from the opponent’s deck, Yondu can knock the smallest card out of play, increasing the chance that the Baron pulls something of use. Mockingbird is also a great pairing! Because her Cost lowers for each card on your side of the board that did not start in your deck, Baron’s recruit will be of use to her. When paired with other cards, Mockingbird’s Cost can easily drop to 2 or less by the final turn.

Is Baron Zemo Worth It?

Marvel Snap's Baron Zemo card surrounded by Abomination and Taskmaster variants.

Players wanting to get their hands on Baron Zemo at launch will need to purchase the Zeroes to Heroes season pass. He won’t be included in Spotlight Caches or the Token Shop when he’s released, though he may be added that way at a future date. Players should decide for themselves whether the card is worth the purchase. The season pass will include new card variants, mystery variants, extra gold, bonus credits, and more!

Baron Zemo is unlikely to have an impact on the game’s meta, at least at launch. Players wanting to conserve some money should skip this card in favor of a more impactful card later down the line.
