DC Comics releases new Batman logo

Ahead of the release of Batman #125, the release that will mark the emergence of new series writer Chip Zdarsky and new series artist Jorge Jiménez, DC Comics has released an official preview and cover of the comic revealing a new logo for the Dark Knight detective on the way as well. Jiménez has taken to social media to confirm that the new creative team will also bring a new Batman logo with them, writing: Oh, yeah..and we also have a new BAT logo! Batman #125. With awesome zdarsky! In July of this year.. See you there friends!! Check it out below.

You see, the new logo is definitely a diversion from what DC Comics used in their groundbreaking Batman comic over the past decade. Since the New Publishing Initiative 52 began, the main Batman comic book has used a logo featuring Batman’s name stylized under the wings of a large bat. On the other hand, the new logo places the bat symbol within the text itself. A change to the main book’s logo may indicate that Zdarsky and Jiménez will be on the book for some time, as previous major changes to the logo indicated a new direction for the character that was designed to last. We have compiled a comparison with the series preview image.

The new series, which features the new logo, will launch with Batman #125 in July of this year with a story titled “Failsafe.” In this six-issue story, Bruce Wayne faces nightmares of a future he can’t stop. There’s a chance he might not make it to that future, because the stunned enemy from Batman’s past has one relentless goal: to finish Batman, no matter what it takes. This foe is the titular Failsafe, a character that Zdarsky has linked with being the Batman equivalent of Superman’s deadliest foe.

“When DC approached me to write Batman, I immediately thought of things that could really challenge the character mentally, physically, and in terms of his relationships,” Zdarsky previously told ComicBook.com about the series. “Failsafe is his own doomsday. When I started plotting the story, I got really excited about where the title could take….the past few years have been a lot of Batman alone, with many (too many) Robins, etc. That’s up to him. But I really wanted to highlight the ‘Batman and Robin’ side of the characters while keeping the dark feel we seek. Tim Drake is my favorite, and being able to highlight it here was a lot of fun.”

Batman #125 debuts on July 5th.
