Apple has unveiled its long-popular 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. Not only do these new laptops promise to be Apple’s most powerful mobile devices, but they should also have impressive battery life thanks to their new processors.
While the 16-inch MacBook Pro has Apple’s new silicone, its design is unchanged from the 2021 2021 MacBook Pro 16-inch (pictured above). This isn’t an issue as we were generally happy with this build as it features MagSafe support, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, and a nice little LED display.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new 16-inch MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro 16-inch M2 Pro: Design, Ports, and Display
The new MacBook Pros feature the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, but remain virtually the same in terms of overall design.
Like its predecessor, the 16-inch MacBook Pro has a small 16.2-inch LED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a notch on top that houses a 1080p webcam, a Magic Keyboard without the Touch Bar, Apple’s usual wide trackpad, and a six-sound system. with loudspeakers. Around the edges, you get a slew of ports, including three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and finally a MagSafe connector for fast charging.
16-inch MacBook Pro M2 Pro: Performance and graphics
The main advantage of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro is that it comes with your choice of M2 Pro or M2 Max chip.
The M2 Pro chip features a 10- or 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, which Apple claims delivers 20 percent more performance than the M1 Pro. The new chip has 200GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, which is double the amount of the base M2 chip and can hold up to 32GB of RAM. Apple says the chip’s 19-core GPU can deliver 30% more graphics performance and the Neural Engine is 40% faster.
The M2 Max chip has a GPU with up to 38 cores and, according to Apple, delivers up to 30 percent more graphics performance compared to the M1 Max. It also includes 400 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth. The M2 Max chip can be configured with up to 96GB of RAM for those who need as much power as possible from Apple’s premium laptop. Apple claims that this chip is 20 percent faster than its predecessor. This is an important claim, especially since the performance of the M1 Pro and M1 Max in the 2021 MacBook Pro impressed us.
MacBook Pro 16-inch M2 Pro: Battery life
Battery life may be a major selling point for both of the new MacBook Pro laptops.
Apple says the 16-inch MacBook Pro is rated for 22 hours of movie playback and 15 hours of web browsing. We’ll be running both the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros through our benchmark tests, but if those claims are accurate, one or both of those machines could beat last year’s 13-inch MacBook Pro, which lasted more than 18 hours.
MacBook Pro 16-inch M2 Pro: Outlook
The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro both feature the same design as the 2021 versions, but a power boost from the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips should make them high-performance machines. Obviously, we’d need to put each machine through our test lab to determine how fast it is compared to previous models, but based on Apple’s claims, these should be the best MacBooks yet.
