PlayStation acquires Haven Studios

Almost a year after helping to advertise Montreal-based game developer Haven Studios, led by Jade Raymond, PlayStation has now announced that it is acquiring the entire developer under the PlayStation Studios umbrella. When it was first announced, Haven Studios was known to be working on a new IP for PlayStation, and this appears to be now officially described as an “AAA multiplayer experience.”

It begins with “Today, I am pleased to announce that Haven Studios is officially joining PlayStation Studios.” Official Announcement From Hermen Hulst, President of PlayStation Studios. “Jade Raymond brings significant experience from her industry achievements and a keen passion for game innovation, and the leadership team at Haven is an equally impressive group of industry veterans who have collaborated on some of the biggest games and franchises that many of us love and still enjoy today.”

According to the announcement, PlayStation was “inspired by Haven’s vision to create a modern multiplayer experience that brings players together in positive and meaningful ways” when the developer was first releasing the title. Faith in the ability of Haven Studios, and Jade Raymond, appears to have only grown over the past year given the news of the full acquisition.

“Today, Team Haven begins a new phase of our journey, as part of the PlayStation Studios family,” Raymond said in part about joining PlayStation Studios. “Working with Hermen, Connie Booth and the team at PlayStation over the past year has been a career highlight. SIE is a supportive partner who truly understands the creative process and what it takes to make a blockbuster AAA game. They have helped and encouraged us to bring our bold vision to life and make our dreams come true we can’t feel I am even more excited about this opportunity to further our partnership.”

As mentioned above, Haven Studios is currently working on a sort of AAA multiplayer experience for PlayStation which is a brand new IP. It’s not clear exactly when more will be revealed about the title, but it seems safe to assume that it will be for the PlayStation 5 at least.
