CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a new game in the The Witcher series is in development. After the continued success of 2015 The Witcher 3: Wild HuntIt seems like an inevitable outcome that the Polish studio will one day end up creating a new entry in the franchise. And while it looks like the game announced today will not be named Witcher 4Instead, a whole new era for the RPG series will begin.
Advertise in Blog post On the Witcher’s official website, CD Projekt Red has revealed that it is now in the process of creating a new game that will launch another series of titles. “We are pleased to announce that the next installment in the video game series The Witcher is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise,” CD Projekt Red said in the blog. “This is an exciting moment as we transition from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, as we begin a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future releases of Unreal Engine, where appropriate We will collaborate closely with the developers of Epic Games with the primary goal of helping design the engine for open world experiences.”

Other than announcing the switch to a new game engine for the next Witcher title, CD Projekt Red didn’t have much to say about the next installment in the series. Specifically, regarding the launch window, the studio has confirmed that it doesn’t have a release date in mind yet. CD Projekt Red explained that “at this point, no other details regarding the game are available – such as the development time frame or release date”.
Although the release of this new Witcher game may take a long time, today’s news is still very exciting nonetheless. Although it seems to be a guarantee of a major new Witcher title at some point down the road, CDPR is now revealing that it’s actively working on this project is something many fans will love to hear. Hopefully it won’t take long for us to see more of what this game will have in store.
