Part Two Director Denis Villeneuve describes the sequel as “the biggest challenge of his career”

Dune Director Denis Villeneuve is preparing for his biggest challenge: the sequel. Dune qualifies for 10 Academy Awards at Sunday’s Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Score (composer Hans Zimmer recently performed a selection live). Talking to ET CanadaVilleneuve (whose name was conspicuously absent from the list of nominees for Best Director) says the setting for Dune: Part Two It has already started. He will return to work on it the following Monday after the Oscars.

“It’s going to be intense,” Villeneuve said during a gala celebration of Canadian Academy Awards nominees. “I’m getting ready now. Monday morning, as soon as we leave Los Angeles, we’ll start getting ready.

“I can’t say anything about the film – I don’t like talking about projects as I do – but it’s probably the biggest challenge of my career, again, because it’s more complex than part One. “

Dune: Part Two It will cover the second half of Frank Herbert’s famous 1965 science fiction novel. Villeneuve previously confirmed that the sequel script is complete. Rumor has it that Austin Butler has played the antagonist as Fed Rutha. Another says Florence Pugh is a part of it, which Villeneuve has vaguely acknowledged in the past. Villeneuve also stated that Zendaya will have a larger role in the sequel. Zendaya plays Chani, a Freman original in Arrakis who falls in love with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a reluctant messiah.

“As for Zendaya, I will say part One It was a promise. I know we saw a glimpse of her in the first part, but in the second part, she will have a prominent role. We will follow Timothée and Zendaya on their adventures in the desert. The thing that got me excited about returning to Arrakis is spending time with those characters again,” said Villeneuve diverse.

Dune: Part Two It may not be the end Dune In cinemas. Rumors suggest that Villeneuve might be a third Dune Film adaptation of Herbert’s first novel, christ dune, the conclusion of the story of Paul and Chaney. There is a spin-off series, Dune: The Sisterhood, working for HBO Max.

“It’s going to be another beautiful journey in the desert again,” Villeneuve said while talking about the sequel at the PGA Awards. “It’s the journey that Paul Atreides and his mother, Mrs. Jessica, connect with Freeman’s culture and meet Freeman. It’s Paul’s journey against the enemy… It’s a movie that will be more cinematic.”

Dune: Part Two Opens in theaters on October 20, 2023. The Academy Awards are broadcast on ABC Sunday.
