Tomb Raider is a writer who reveals what she wants from a new game

Tomb Raider (2013) And Rise of the Tomb Raider Writer Rihanna Pratchett has stated what she hopes to see from the next game in the series. Earlier this week, Crystal Dynamics announced that it had begun work on an all-new Tomb Raider game. As of now, there are no details about the game other than the fact that the team is using Unreal Engine 5 to make it happen. No word on whether this will continue the story from the previous trilogy or if Crystal Dynamics will replay Lara Croft’s story again. Whatever the case may be, one of the veterans of the franchise is already expressing what you don’t want to see from the game.

The former writer of the series Rihanna Pratchett told Eurogamer That she wants to see Lara have “less dad issues” and also fully embrace being a tomb raider now, as the previous trilogy has seen her origin story. “I love seeing her go alone and really enjoy what she’s doing,” Pratchett said. “Because when we wrote the reboot game, she was really well on her way to becoming a Tomb Raider. So she was like a proto-Tomb Raider. And all the traits that you associate with a Tomb Raider like perseverance, bravery, resourcefulness, she was kind of bubbles on the surface with her. I want to see that come through. Fully fruited, I want to see the bold liners and things I would have loved to write. But, you know, you weren’t at that point yet, you didn’t have the confidence yet.”

Pratchett confirmed that she’s not working on this entry, but is excited to see what Crystal Dynamics comes with. The Tomb Raider trilogy was noticeably darker than the original games, featuring a high level of violence and conflict for Lara. Whether Crystal Dynamics chooses to lean on it remains to be seen, but it would be nice to see the more experienced Lara who feels comfortable in her shoes. Shadow of the Tomb Raider Some of that, but the fourth game could really benefit from that angle.
