Marvel unveils X-Men Hellfire Gala 2022 costume designs

Last year’s Hellfire Gala was a huge success for the X-Men, which is why Marvel revisited its event of the year with X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1. Not only will you see the 72-page shot of the X-Men, but other heroes and villains from all over the Marvel Universe dressed in high fashion. Artist Russell Dauterman designed 11 of these costumes, and Marvel has given fans their first look at these new designs featuring trendy suits for Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Black Widow, Wolverine, Scarlet Witch, and more. These costumes will also appear on various covers debuting in June.

“I am so happy to do all this design work!” Dottermann said Marvel.com. “My general idea of ​​Gala designs is that they should be high-end superhero costumes – looks that reflect the characters’ personalities, and can work on a runway or a battlefield.”

Dauterman’s design papers for Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Scarlet Witch, Doctor Doom, She-Hulk, Gambit, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Havok, Iceman, Synch, and Magik are below. X-Men: Hellfire Gala Number 1 comes from the creative team made up of writer Jerry Duggan and artists Russell Dauterman, Matthew Lulli, CF Villa and Chris Anka. The single shot hits stores on June 29.

Dauterman reveals, “I went for pop-punk vibes with styling Laura – Rina Sawayama, Dua Lipa, Avril Lavigne, mixed with very cool X-Men beauty from Frank Quitely.”

“Wanda is one of my favorite characters, so I took the opportunity to design it!” Dottermann remembers. “I bowed to the magical icons and pointed out some of the previous Scarlet Witch costumes—plus nods to her son Wiccan and sister Polaris (from MAGNETO: DARK SEDUCTION).”

“Doom is gorgeous in general, so I chose fashion items to heighten that—go for a regal baroque look,” explains Dautermann. “He’s got a heavy fur cloak with a train, a roman-inspired sash, and a more ornate mask.”

“I designed a symbol for Jen’s logo inspired by Chanel—and tried to emphasize her muscles by comparing it to subtle things: flowing fabric, stiletto heels, and pearls,” says Dautermann.

“I tried to strike a balance between sexy and sassy—a more crude look at the classic Gambit costume,” explains Dautermann.

“I’ve done some variations on this dress, but I love it so much as a cat suit—chic and sexy, but also discreet,” Dottermann recalls. “The face covering is a nod to Natasha’s debut appearance.”

Spider Man

“This is supposed to be a more dramatic and futuristic version of the Spider-Man costume,” says Dottermann. “The suit recedes into the dark, so the glowing spider icon and geometric accents stand out.”

Marvel also teases that fans should check it out Free Comic Book Day: X-Men / Avengers on May 7th for a look at what Spider-Man will be up to.

“This look combines Alex’s classic black and white outfit with his ’90s X-Factor look – I love this outfit!” Dauterman stock. “The edges on the sleeves and boots are meant to indicate the Havok’s rings of forces, while the X on the neck stands for the tie.”

“The snowman’s suit and boots are ice, an extension of his body, rather than the clothing over it,” explains Dautermann. “I wanted Bobby to have something classy and elegant – Versace-inspired.”

Dottermann reveals, “I wanted to give Synch a costume that would signal his powers and feel modern. Plus, I think red is his color—and a nod to Generation X.”

“Darkchild’s pantsuit!” says Dautermann. “I wanted to play with Ileana’s satanic images — with Mugler, Gaga, McQueen Twist.”
