WWE’s Ricochet retains the Intercontinental Championship against Jinder Mahal in a Smackdown

They were immediately locked up and Mahal hit Ricochet and pressed him to the ground. He then hit him with some of his arms and then hit him hard on the back before hiding, but he was kicked out. They swapped covers for a minute and then Ricochet hit the beautiful Shooting Star Press, but Mahal came back swinging. Ricochet bought himself enough space and time to climb to the top rope, but Shanky knocked Mahal out of the ring. Ricochet then sailed from above and collided with both stars, then pushed Mahal into the ring.

He went upstairs again and hit the Shooting Star Press again and installed Mahal, that was enough for 1,2,3. Ricochet retains and continues to be the Intercontinental Champion. It remains to be seen who will be the next opponent of Ricochet, but he has already collected an impressive number of victories.

According to a previous report, Ricochet is internally listed as the #2 beloved face on SmackDown behind only Drew McIntyre, so hopefully this means he’ll get a decent award as the Intercontinental Champion. He is currently the only person in WWE history to hold the NXT North American title, the United States title, and the Intercontinental title, because his title in the United States was unfortunately short.

His US title lasted only 21 days in 2019, but his NXT North American Title career lasted a little longer, clocking 161 days. Hopefully his run in the Intercontinental Title will be closer to his NXT Tour, as if he’s closer to 161, he’ll beat Sami Zayn, Apollo Crews, Big E, Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles. Shinsuke Nakamura’s 201-day run is the only one to beat the North American title.

Where do you think he will rank in the Ricochet Intercontinental Championship? Tell us in the comments or as always you can talk about all things wrestling with me on Twitter @MattAguilarCB!
