Last fall, it was announced bad boys for life Superstar Jacob Scipio joins HBO Max’s bat girl, although there were no details at the time about who he would play in the eagerly awaited movie. This lack of detail has led to a great deal of speculation including that Scipio could play Dick Grayson/Nightwing in the film. Now, however, Batgirl star Leslie Grace has debunked the rumors, confirming that Scipio is not playing Dick Grayson, but Gotham head coach Anthony Precy. Grace confirmed the role of Scipio in an interview with H! News (via direct).
While Grace debunked the idea of Scipio as a night wing, the interview does not indicate that she has completely ruled out Nightwing’s appearance in Batgirl, which would generally make sense given the relationship between Barbara and Dick over the years in the comics. However, Grace spoke quite a bit about her character’s journey in the film, noting that audiences will see the character grow through the film which may indicate that this chapter of Batgirl’s story won’t necessarily feature Nightwing.
“There’s not a lot of nuance in her thinking at the beginning of the story, and she’s got into a lot of these tough situations and she has to find out a lot about parts of her to get herself out of it…so you’re going to see her grow out of this kind of world view and I really, really like it.” Really,” said Grace. “It’s like all of your favorite superheroes, you can see their origin story. You can see them mature.”

Grace explained in an interview with Entertainment tonight earlier this year. “And in a fraction of the research I did leading into pre-production, I learned a lot of things about Barbara that go perfectly with me.”
“She is someone who has been underestimated even by her father and being the youngest child, you are sometimes cut off from all the tough things in life and she is very eager to prove to herself and everyone that there are some things she can handle.” So she will show me This trip definitely had a lot of it. I feel like I’m on an endless journey to prove to myself what barriers I can break, what limits I can break for myself and I’m excited for her to put a little bit of that passion and drive, and a little bit of stubbornness into Barbara’s character.”
Batgirl is set to be released later on HBO Max.
